Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Friday that deliberate attempts were being made to create a false perception that the security situation in Balochistan was deteriorating, pushing back against what he described as a coordinated narrative campaign against the state’s counter-terrorism efforts.
Addressing a press conference on the overall security situation in the country, DG ISPR disclosed that 40,348 intelligence-based operations had been conducted across all security forces in 2026 so far, including police, civil armed forces, intelligence agencies and the armed forces, with the majority exceeding 31,000 conducted in Balochistan alone.
Security forces were undertaking nearly 200 intelligence-based operations per day, meaning such operations were being carried out every hour. A total of 2,084 confirmed terrorists had been killed in 2026, averaging 10 per day, which the DG ISPR described as the highest ratio ever recorded.
Of the 3,145 terrorism incidents recorded nationwide in 2026, 1,971 occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,148 in Balochistan, and 26 elsewhere. A total of 819 Pakistanis were martyred in terrorism incidents this year, comprising 303 army personnel, 194 police and civil armed forces, and 322 civilians.
DG ISPR noted that the ratio of terrorists killed per martyr had been improving steadily, rising from two terrorists per martyr in 2025 to 2.5 in 2026, reflecting the maturing kinetic prong of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategy.
He attributed the rise in terrorism incidents to diminishing returns on other elements of the militants’ strategy, increased operational proactivity by security forces, and what he described as the “agenda of the terrorist-supporting Taliban regime.” He stressed that the state had made clear there was no room for appeasement or negotiations with terrorists who refused to submit to the Constitution and the law.
