Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived for the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, marking the grouping’s 25th anniversary, with around a dozen heads of state in attendance, including the leaders of Russia, India, Iran and Pakistan.
The summit is expected to focus on trade, infrastructure, clean energy, regional security and connectivity projects. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines to review bilateral ties ahead of upcoming BRICS discussions.
Xi is expected to promote major regional projects, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, as leaders seek closer economic and strategic cooperation amid rising global tensions. Following the summit, Xi will travel to Egypt.
