A student gunman killed six people at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province on the outskirts of Bangkok on Friday morning before dying himself, bringing the total death toll to seven in one of the country’s deadliest school shootings in recent years.
The attack left seven people dead in total, including three teachers, three students, and the suspected student gunman, while 15 others were injured. According to preliminary investigators, the suspect was a juvenile and a student at the school, who was later found dead inside a classroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police said the suspected gunman also shot and killed his grandparents at their home before arriving at the school and opening fire. A witness at the scene said the gunman, wearing a purple tracksuit, fired dozens of shots inside the school. Terrified students locked down in their classrooms, huddling under desks as the shooting unfolded.
The Royal Thai Police said a 9mm handgun found at the scene was reported to belong to a member of the suspected shooter’s family.
In the 2025 academic year, the school had an enrolment of about 3,100 students and 147 teachers. The attack is the deadliest school shooting in Thailand since the 2022 Nong Bua Lamphu massacre, which killed 37 people including 24 children.
