Pakistan and Qatar have jointly announced the conclusion of the first high-level session of talks under the Islamabad MoU framework, held at Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with the United States and Iran both participating.
The Lake Lucerne Summit concluded in a “positive and constructive atmosphere” with concrete outcomes agreed upon by all parties.
A High-Level Committee has been established to provide political oversight on the mediation process, with chief negotiators reporting regularly and leading working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution.
A roadmap for the next 60 days toward a final deal has been agreed and technical talks have begun. A direct communication channel has also been established between the two parties to avoid incidents and misunderstandings, thereby allowing for the safe passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
A de-confliction cell has been created between the parties and the Lebanese Republic, facilitated by mediators, to ensure adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the MoU.
Technical talks will continue for the remainder of the week at the Bürgenstock resort. Pakistan and Qatar expressed appreciation to Washington and Tehran for their commitment to diplomatic resolution.
The outcomes are a gradual progression from ceasefire to negotiation. Pakistan’s role as co-announcer alongside Qatar places Islamabad firmly within the formal mediation architecture going forward.
