Lahore to Host 10-Day Basant Festival in 2027

Punjab CM Maryam approved a 10-day Basant festival in Lahore from January 29 to February 7, 2027, with a break on February 5 for Kashmir Day.

Lahore is set to host a 10-day Basant festival from January 29 to February 7, 2027, following approval by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The festival is intended to revive Lahore’s historic cultural tradition, promote Punjab’s rich heritage and provide citizens with an extended period of cultural celebrations.

According to the approved schedule, the festivities will begin on January 29 and continue until February 7. Celebrations will be suspended on February 5 in observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day and will resume on February 6 before concluding on February 7.

The Punjab government has directed the relevant departments to make comprehensive arrangements for public safety, security and convenience.

Authorities have also been instructed to ensure that preparations are stronger and more effective than those made during the previous Basant celebrations.

Special attention is expected to be given to the prevention of accidents linked to kite-flying, including injuries caused by dangerous strings, rooftop falls, traffic incidents and contact with electrical wires.

The government has made it clear that the protection of human lives must remain the highest priority throughout the festival.

The announcement follows the revival of Basant celebrations in Lahore in February 2026 after a prolonged suspension.

The 2027 festival is expected to generate considerable public interest and attract visitors to the city. However, its success will depend on maintaining a careful balance between cultural celebration, public safety, strict enforcement of regulations and the uninterrupted movement of residents and emergency services.
