ISLAMABAD: Career diplomat Sajjad Haider Khan is likely to be named Pakistan’s new Foreign Office spokesperson, succeeding Tahir Hussain Andrabi, according to diplomatic and media reports. Formal notification is expected soon.
Khan currently serves as Director General for South Asia and SAARC at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A career diplomat from Gilgit-Baltistan with more than two decades of Foreign Service experience, he has served at Pakistani missions in Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Syria, and Belarus, and was Pakistan’s ambassador to Belarus.
Andrabi, who has held the spokesperson’s role since October 2025 alongside his duties as Additional Foreign Secretary for arms control, is expected to move to Geneva as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN Office there.
The transition comes as Pakistan manages a full diplomatic agenda, including tensions with India, mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, and high-level SCO and UN meetings. The appointment puts an experienced South Asia hand in the Foreign Office’s most public role at an active moment for regional security.
